The Secret of Imagination is no myth. Great achievers through the ages have recognised that in order to succeed you must have imagination. Nothing was ever created without imagination.
When you learned to swim or to kick a ball, to play a musical instrument or run a mile, you first imagined yourself doing it successfully. We do not think in words; we think in pictures.
It does not mean, of course, that if you sit down and daydream about something that it will just come about all by itself, but if you don't first daydream or imagine what you want, you certainly won't achieve it. As the great Mohammed Ali said, "The man who has no imagination has no wings."
I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free
In The Secret Rhonda Byrne writes that your current thoughts are creating your future life and what you think about the most, or focus on the most, will appear in your life. Your thoughts become things. But it doesn't just happen.
By concentrating your imagination and your thoughts every day on what you want to achieve, and making a practice of it, will enable your unconscious mind to beaver away in the background and come up with ways to make it happen.
When you are ready, go to the page Imagining Perfect Performance, scroll down and get instant access to our free video on how to use your imagination.
When you use visual anchors you are using your imagination. You cannot depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus, said Mark Twain.
Take yourself to a quiet room, dim the lights, sit comfortably and close your eyes. Take two deep breaths, slowly let them out and relax.
Imagine you are participating in your
favourite sport or hobby or ... even better ... making love to your
partner. See the picture in your mind's eye. See it happening through
your own eyes. Make it brighter and more vivid.
Double it in size. Now
double it again. Hear what you would hear. Feel what you would feel.
Concentrate on those images, sounds and feelings for a few minutes.
Then open your eyes. I expect you felt as if you were in another world when time stood still. There is no-one else there but what you experienced was very real.
For a while you were in an altered state. That demonstrates the power of your imagination.
Imagination is more important than knowledge - Albert Einstein
Now close your eyes again and, this time, concentrate on your dreams. Visualise what you want to achieve in the most intense detail.
See what life will be like when you achieve that dream. Hear what you would hear. Feel what you would feel. Make sure you do this every day for a few minutes.
Make sure from now on that when you go to bed you keep a notepad by the bedside. While you are sleeping at night your unconscious will be working on those images and will come up with ideas.
If you wake at night with an idea you will need to write it down at once because you are not likely to remember it in the morning.
Remember, this is the beginning of your future. No-one sent a rocket to the moon without first imagining it would happen and then working on the vision.
We mentioned above that modelling yourself on another was a further way of using the Secret of Imagination.
Consider how much further you would like to explore and just how much of your own genius you would like to unlock.
Remember particularly to identify the talents of these people within yourself. You will have them all. You may just have to think carefully and search within.
